KATHMANDU, MAY 04 – Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Chairman Mahanta Thakur on Friday said that if there is voting at the Constituent Assembly for the contentious issues, it would yield startling conclusions.
Thakur claimed that none of the parties have majority support in the CA at this point; hence, there is no alternative to consensus. “None of the parties in the CA have enough support to gather majority votes. Therefore, voting can lead to scandalous decisions,” said Thakur.
Thakur further claimed that the issue of ‘One Madhes Single State’ should also be excluded from voting as Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML have been opposing it. “We have come to the peaceful mainstream of CA after the Madhes revolution. However, our demands would not be met if we opt for voting because of our lesser number. For that reason we are trying to solve the issue through consensus,” said Thakur.
Thakur claimed that ‘One Mashes Single State’ was the consequence of the Madhes revolution. “Our basic intension is to unite all the Madhesis from across the nation. We would later address our internal demands of Mithila, Abadh, Tharuhat and other states,” Thakur said.
Moreover, Thakur said that the Madhesis do not completely agree to the proposal of State Restructuring Commission. However, he said that it comes quite close to their demands.
