Speaking at a program at the Reporters Club in the Capital on Saturday, Poudel vented his ire towards the agitation program unveiled by the hard-line faction of UPCN (Maoist), led by Vice Chairman Mohan Baidhya, demanding the resignation of PM Bhattarai. “Demanding PM’s resignation is a conspiracy to plunge the country into another war. It is irresponsible and immature to demand the resignation of the government led by owns party,” Poudel said.
Clarifying that PM Bhattarai will resign only if the ‘no confidence’ motion was endorsed against him, Poudel challenged to table the motion instead of protesting through streets. He also said that the government was open to discuss the ministerial portfolio to be given to Baidhya faction.
Speaking on the government’s decision to provide Rs. 20 million to Maoist mountaineers, including Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal’s son Prakash Dahal, Poudel said there were some reservation on the decision but the decision would not be rolled back.
Also speaking on the occasion, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Arjun Narsingh KC recalled that NC had given the time until mid-March to conclude the peace process and maintained that PM had no alternative than to resign as the peace process was not completed within the given time.
“Even our President Sushil Koirala had given the time till mid-March to conclude the peace process. PM should resign as he has not been able to conclude it even after four days past the given time,” KC said.
