KATHMANDU, MAY 08 – The major political parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML – on Tuesday claimed that they are on the verge of agreement over the issue of federalism.
During the meeting called at the CPN-UML headquarters, the leaders claimed that they have almost solved the contentious issue of federalism.
Emerging from the meeting, NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the meeting has opened the door for an agreement among the parties on issue of state restructuring.
After the three party meet, the leaders of NC and UML also held a bilateral meeting. “The meeting dwelled upon agreement on the issues of state restructuring and forms of governance. We are on the verge of agreement,” said UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.
NC General Secretary Sitaula further said that the parties are trying their best to come to a unanimous conclusion. Sitaula said that after the meetings among the major parties, they would also sit for a meeting with the leaders of Samyukta Loktantrk Madhesi Morcha (SLMM).
The major parties have extended the deadline for solving the issues by two days. If the parties fail to forge consensus within the time, there would be a voting on the issues at the Constituent Assembly (CA).ekantipur
