“Maoist‚ PM focused on statute‚ not CA extension”

KATHMANDU: Expressing concerns over the media reports based on the prime minister’s political advisor’s statement that the former is working to extend the term of Constituent Assembly, the UCPN-Maoist officially said on Sunday that the party is focused on the timely promulgation of constitution-in-the-making.

Issuing a statement this afternoon, Maoist Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said that the Maoist party and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, also one of the vice chairmen of the party, are working out to promulgate the new constitution through the Constituent Assembly on the scheduled date by forging agreement among the parties. The CA term is expiring on May 27.

Sharma further said that no alternative has been thought over except promulgating the constitution on date set for now, asking all not to get carried away the reports.

Earlier today, speaking at the Reporters Club in Kathmandu, the prime minister’s political advisor Devendra Paudel had the prime minister believes that the CA should not be dissolved sans new constiution.

According to him, the new statute will be promulgated by extending the CA’s deadline and that the prime minister is working out for that.THT ONLINE
