KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi on Saturday claimed that demands for Defence Minister Sarat Singh Bhandari’s resignation is a ploy to foil the ongoing peace process.
Speaking at a talkshow that the Himalayan Television is set to broadcast this evening, Minister Tripathi warned that the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) would launch a strong protest against the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML if they continued seeking Bhandari’s resignation though the latter has already clarified over his statement.
“Defence minister will not resign from his post as he has already made his clarification public. The four-point pact is the basis of consensus and will be implemented at any cost,” stated Tripathi.
He also revealed that the UDMF would pull out from the government if the four-point pact was not implemented.
The opposition parties have piled pressure on the government after Defence Minister Bhandari publicly said last month that the Tarai districts can secede from the country if they decide to do so.
