PM portrays Maoist-Madhesi govt as history’s need

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday said that the government in his leadership was the history’s need.

Addressing the nation on the occasion of completion of first year by the Maoist-Madhesi coalition government, he said that the coalition should be taken for the means for conflict management at the time the parties had been status quoist.

In the 43-minute long live telivised address from the hall of National Planning Commission soon after 4 pm this afternoon, Bhattaari, who is also one of the vice chairmen of UCPN-Maoist, said the government could not meet the important goals as it could not get expected support from the stakeholders. He further claimed that important achievements have been made int he peace process and consitution drafting though they could not be completed.

According to him, the government and the coalition partners are not responsible for the death of Constituent Assembly.

The conflict between progressive and status quoist forces was the reason behind the CA demise.

Earlier he mentioned that the Nepali Congress president’s protest against the proposal for CA term extension registered by the then Law Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who is also NC general secretary, became the cause of CA’s death.

Dr. Bhattarai said that he was ready to quit if political consensus and national consensus would be made.

He, however, made it clear that the government in his leadership will stay put till the formation of a new legitimate government.

He argued that the ordinances are a compulsion as the elected legislature does not exist at present.
