President directs Bhattarai govt to work in caretaker status; assures of ‘peaceful and democratic outlet’

President Ram Baran Yadav has directed the Bhattarai government to work in caretaker status until the formation of the new government.

Issuing a statement Tuesday, the President asked Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to carry out daily administrative works of the government in caretaker status until the formation of the new cabinet under Clause 9 of Article 39 of the Interim Constitution.

Citing Article 38 (Clause 7), which says the Prime Minister gets automatically relieved of his post once he loses the membership of the Constituent Assembly and the legislature parliament, the Shital Niwas statement implied that Bhattarai had lost executive power after the dissolution of the CA.
