KATHMANDU: Security provision in the Capital has been beefed up today as well in order to curb any untoward incidents fearing possible clashes among different agitating groups with the looming deadline of the Constituent Assembly (CA).
According to Police Commissioner’s Office, security situation has been beefed up in sensitive areas including the CA building, office of the President, Shital Niwas, official residence of the Prime Minister, Baluwatar, among others.
As high as 10,000 security personnel have been deployed by considering the sensitive areas in the valley. More than 1,200 security personnel have been mobilized at and around the CA building, police said.
Spokesperson of the Police Commissioner’s Office, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rabiraj Shrestha, said that a large number of security personnel have been deployed in order to maintain security provision in sensitive areas and the personnel have been put on high alert.
Similarly, 450 trained personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) have also been deployed at main check-points in the Valley. Of them, 200 have been deployed at the CA premises.
Spokespersons of the APF, SSP Shailendra Khanal said that 450 APF personnel have been deployed this time by viewing the security of the Valley and the APF personnel have been kept on high alert to control possible hooliganism.
Similarly, the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has extended the prohibited areas around the CA, Singha Durbar, Office of the President, Shitl Niwas, official residence of the Prime Minister, Baluwatar, among others.THT
