The death toll in Saturday’s flash flood on the Seti river has risen to 19 as two more bodies were recovered from the debris in the flood-affected Kharapani village of Kaski district on Monday. However, the bodies couldn’t be identified.
As of Sunday, 17 bodies were recovered from the debris left by the flood on the Seti River. Of them, only twelve could be identified. The remaining bodies were badly disfigured with limbs torn apart and hence the identities of the bodies couldn’t be ascertained.
Authorities said some 50 people including three Ukrainians are still missing and efforts to find them alive are on. A joint search and rescue team comprising Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force aided by locals is carrying out search operations among the muddy debris in flood-ravaged villages of the district in the hopes of finding the missing. However, they say chances of finding anyone alive now looks very slim.
