KATHMANDU, MAY 16 – The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) on Tuesday slammed the agreement among the four major political forces–UCPN(Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM). It termed the deal as an “extreme measure of betrayal and deception.”
In a statement on Tuesday evening, the federation’s chairman Rajkumar Lekhi said the deal was a “machiavelian ploy to shy away from federalism itself.”
He also said that the party leaders concerned will have to “pay the price for this deception and treachery.”
“The nation will burn from Wednesday against such a deal to draft a constitution without any concrete sketch of federalism. This nation does not belong to four leaders alone,” Lekhi said.
The agreement among the parties that appears to have addressed the “anti-federalism demand” made in the name of an undivided Far West is much deplorable, Lekhi added.
NEFIN pointed out to three instances of “grave deception” in Tuesday’s deal. The first instance, according to the group, is agreement on less than 14 states approved by a CA committee. The second, it said, is the decision to mark the boundaries of the provinces later. The third “deception,” according to NEFIN, is agreement on naming the states only after the delineation is complete.
The Federation has appealed to all Nepalis and lawmakers to stand against the “behind-the-scenes deal struck in Baluwatar.”source Ekantipur Report
