The UCPN (Maoist) has formed 2,51 member National General Convention Organising Committee (NGCOC) on Thursday. The meeting of the central leaders held at party headquarters in Perishdanda formed the jumbo committee following the refusal of the leaders, close to Prime Minister and party’s vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai and another vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, to endorse the proposal of 1,75 member body presented by chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Dahal presented modified proposal after the leaders demanded an inclusive committee. Party spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said the meeting endorsed 2,51 member committee comprising indigenous nationalities, Madhesi, Dalit, women, and the senior leaders.
The Maoist party had decided to dissolve the standing committee, politburo and the central committee, turning them into ‘general convention organising committee’ during the extended central plenum last month which was to be reformed.
The party has already decided to convene its first general convention in the Nepali month of Magh (Jan-Feb 2013). However, the date is yet to be fixed.
