Kathmandu-Delhi air fare hike on cards
NEW DELHI, NOV 15 – Here is unpleasant news for those who fly from Delhi airport. After two weeks, the airfare of the domestic and international flights emerging from the Indira Gandhi International Airport is all set to shoot up by IRs 200 to 1300. Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (Aera) has allowed the GMR Infrastructure Limited-run Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL) to charge those amounts as air port development fee from December 1.
Prior to this, there was a five-month freeze banning the operator from collecting such fee. In April, the Supreme Court had nullified the charging of such fee by the Delhi and Mumbai airports unless Aera passed orders allowing its collection.
The new allowance will continue till May 2013, bringing cheers to the operator company that has been struggling with non-payment of dues from air carrier like Air India and Kingfisher, Indian media has reported.
The new decision will affect a lot of Nepali passengers as a large number of Nepali citizens regularly visit New Delhi by via air route for different purposes. Delhi is also a popular transit point for many Nepalis who fly back to or from Nepal.
Similar type of allowance for the Mumbai airport is also reported to be under Aera’s consideration. Before Aera was established, the Mumbai and Delhi airports were allowed by the civil aviation ministry to charge the development fee.mahesh acharya ekantipur
