KATHMANDU: A dispute between employees and the management has forced KFC and Pizza Hut to close their outlets indefinitely at a time when the government is planning to announce Nepal Investment Year to attract foreign investment in the country.

yesterday, informed All Nepal Revolutionary Hotel and Restaurant Workers Association Vice-chairman Tika Subedi, who is associated with the CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidhya.

Subedi said the employees had been in the process of registering their union at the Labour Office in Teku since last week and the management had shut down the eatery unilaterally to stall the registration of the union, accusing the staff of manhandling HR manager.

Numerous attempts to contact the management of Devyani International Nepal that has been managing KFC and Pizza Hut in Nepal went in vain.

KFC and Pizza Hut entered Nepal in 2009, November 23 as the first multinational food chain and opened their outlet at Durbar Marg. Devyani International also opened Pizza Hut Delivery at Blue Bird in Tripureshwor last October to provide free home delivery service. The international chain employs some 180 Nepalis.
