KATHMANDU, OCT 14 – The fifth Non Resident Nepali (NRN) Global Conference continued its past tradition by unanimously electing Jiba Lamichanne as the new president of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) on Friday. Another contender Dev Man Hirachan withdrew his candidacy at the wee hours today after intense pressure and request from all the quaters, leaving the only contender Lamichanne vying for the post. Hirachan said he took back the candidacy for the welfare and unity of the NRNA as the Thursday’s event came out in an exaggerated manner. He also reckoned that the consensus sought in the NRN could give some positive message to the political parties as well. Following the victory, Lamichanne said, the election has once again given the message of unity to all. He said he would maintain unity to gain the objective of the NRN. “There were no differences among us. We were together, we are together and we will be together,” Lamichanne said. Other vacant post in the NRN would now be filled by elections.
