‘Mehta said nothing what was reported’, Leaders present at the dinner party term media report bogus

BIRGUNJ: Political leaders, who had attended a dinner party on Wednesday at a hotel in Birgunj, today said Consular SD Mehta at the Consulate General of India, Birgunj, had not made any comments on Nepal’s international affairs, including the issue of Madhes, as reported by certain media.

According to Nepali Congress district leader Rajeshwor Shah Teli, the consular said nothing of the sort reported in some newspapers. “We, political leaders, had dwelt on issues like whether it will be viable to make Janakpur the provincial capital or Birgunj,” said Teli. “There were no discussions on a particular political party. Nor did we talk about Madhes agitation,” he added. “I was surprised to read such baseless remarks attributed to Mr Mehta.”

Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic leader BP Yadav said he too was present at the party but nothing was discussed as reported in the media. “The report was misleading. This is a ploy to damage the relationship between Nepal and India. The consular had shown interest to know our views; that’s it. We did not get into discussions on political scenario,” said Yadav. “The report saying there was instigation for agitation is false. I was surprised to read the bogus report in the newspaper.”

Janata Dal Nepal Central General Secretary Binaya Yadav, who had organised the dinner party, said whatever was published in the newspaper was nothing but propaganda. “I had thrown the dinner party and invited my intimate friends to celebrate my election to the post of general secretary,” he said. “Mehta was also a guest at the party. He spent most of the time listening to our discussions, rather than participating; and he had extended best wishes to us and all the Nepali people for getting a new constitution.” Binaya added that no one by the name of Arbinda Singh, as mentioned in the news report, was present at the party.

Shailendra Yadav of NC said his statement was distorted. “This is nothing except a conspiracy to damage the friendly relationship between the two countries,” he said. CPN-UML leader Bichari Yadav said there were informal discussions on whether to make Birgunj the provincial capital when he reached the party.THT
