AUSTRALIA, AUG 31 – The concept of Open University (OU) proposed long proposed by the Non Residential Nepalis (NRNs) is likely to materialize soon. The issue was discussed during the second day of the NRN Regional Conference being held at Sydney, Australia on Friday.
There was a formal agreement during the conference as progresses have already been made on the issue. The agreement was signed in the presence of Education Minister Dinanath Sharma. Education Joint Secretary Hahashram Sharma, NRN Chairman Jiba Lamichhane and the representatives of OU in Australia, Canada and England signed the agreement.
According to NRN Australia Chairman Ganesh KC, the NRNs have reached an understanding to start classes of Open University from 2013, even if it has to start with one faculty in the beginning.
KC also notified that the Ministry of Education would be providing the necessary infrastructure for the University along with the distance education building at Dhulikhel.
Moreover, the OU in Canada, Australia and England have agreed to provide further technical assistance for the University.
