528,257 Students wl appear in SLC exams from today

KATHMANDU, March 20: This year´s SLC exams is set to begin from Tuesday with over 500,000 students preparing hard to get through the Iron Gate. Altogether 528,257 students will appear in the SLC exams-2068 B.S., according to the Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE). The OCE has set 1748 exam centers across the country.

A total of 56,000 staffers, which includes security personnel, would be mobilized to conduct the SLC exams, says Dilli Rimal, the SLC exams controller.

Nepal Army (NA), Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel will be deployed to ensure that the exams are disciplined. The Ministry of Education (MoE) has reiterated that any one found engaging in any kind of activities that disrupt the exams will be booked under Public Offence Act.

Similarly, those who leak question papers or help the examinees in cheating will be fined a maximum of Rs 100,000 or be sentenced to six months in jail or both as per the Education Act.

The MoE says any teacher or government employee caught violating the exams code of conduct would be barred from being promoted. The MoE has also warned of nullifying all educational certificates of those who are caught by police on the charge of breaching disciplinary norms set for the SLC exams.

Keeping in mind the problems faced by students due to power outage, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had recently reduced load shedding to 63 hours a week.

Meanwhile, Republica correspondent Chandni Hamal has reported that over 700 former Maoist ex-rebels are appearing in the SLC exams from Chitwan and Nawalparasi distirct.

In Chitwan, some 500 Maoist ex-rebels who are either still languishing in cantonments by opting for integration into the national army or have left cantonments after choosing voluntary retirement will sit in the exams at Prithivi Higher Secondary School in Jupani, Chaturmukhi Higher Secondary School in Shaktikhor and Janjagriti Higher Secondary School. In Nawalparasi, 200 ex-rebels will appear in the exams from Arunkhola and Chormara-based exam centers.
