KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has advised the major political parties to propel the constitution-drafting process as per the consensus.



Talking with the top leaders of major political parties, who had reached the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu to brief the Prez about the contemporary political issues, Dr Yadav urged parties to display serious-mindedness in the statute drafting process.

Consensual politics has no other alternatives in this transitional period and its practice is inevitable for timely statute as well, Prez reiterated during his meeting with the leader of the UCPN-Maoist, the UDMF, the NC, and the UML.

Only on Wednesday, Prime Minister Bhattarai had assured President Dr Yadav that the constitution will be promulgated by May 27.

During an hour-long meeting, President Yadav also suggested the leaders not to drag their heels on the formation of the unity government, which is yet to take a full-fledged status after the CPN-UML decided to stay out of the incumbent Baburam-led government.

Emerging from the meet, CPN-UML Chief Jhalanath Khanal said that the President suggested parties to expedite efforts in forging consensus over the unresolved issues as the time is running out.

UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and vice-chairman and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and UML chairman Khanal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal were present in the meeting with the President.THT ONLINE
