KATHMANDU: After hectic parleys, negotiations, and squabbling, four major political parties have eventually decided to promulgate the new constitution to meet the Sunday deadline with an understanding to pass on the unresolved issues afflicting the constitution-drafting process to the purported transitional parliament.

“We will issue the first draft of new constitution today, taking into account all the agreements reached among us so far,” one of the negotiators told THT Online over phone. He, however, did not want to be named. According to him, the unsettled issues will be handed over to the transformed parliament.

Following the understanding, the senior leaders of UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and United Demorcatic Madhesi Front (UDMF) left the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar and headed to Singha Durbar to hold a meeting with CA Chairman Subash Nembang.

At Baluwatar, the leaders did not brief the media about the decision they made.

It has been learnt that the parties inched closer to crave federal states with multiple ethnic identities during the process of state-restructuring.

The talks took the u-turn after the representatives Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) displayed a maximum flexibility and budged from their earlier stance to federate the country on the basis of single identity.by PRAKASH ACHARYA THT
