KATHMANDU UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Monday that he was never against India or any religionHe reportedly made the statement in a meeting with visiting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bijay Joli, who is also the convenor of external affairs for the party. “Chairman Dahal told me that his party was not against India or religion and that he rather wanted to strengthen ties between the two countries,” Joli said at Reporter’s Club.

Dahal was projected as “anti-India and Hindu religion” following the fall of the government led by him in May 2009.

Joli also made clear that the BJP doesn’t impose political ideology that it follows but wants to develop robust relations with Nepal’s Maoists with intense interaction and exchange of ideas. “I am upbeat after the meeting with Dahal and also with other leaders of Nepal like Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, DPM and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gacchhader, President of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala and others.”

“India would never interfere in Nepal’s internal affairs,” he said adding that it would only lend support for the development work in Nepal. “India and our party want to see peace prevailing and early completion of constitution drafting process in Nepal,” he said.

He said that 2.7 million people of Nepali origins residing in India were a matter of pride for India. Joli, who arrived here as a special envoy of his party, said that the promulgation of a new constitution would pave the way for Nepal’s prosperity. He added that Nepal should follow the path of China and India in development sector. According to Joli, Dahal said he would visit India once there is substantial progress in the peace and statute drafting processes.

On behalf of the BJP, he expressed condolence over the loss of lives in Sunday’s quake in Nepal.
