Shyam Sundar Gupta arrested on charge of businessman’s abduction
Lawmaker and chairman of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) Shyam Sundar Gupta was arrested from his residence in Siddharthanagar-5, Rupendehi, in connection of the kidnapping of a Kathmandu-based Marwari businessman Pawan Sanghai.
A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, arrested him from his Bank Road residence in Siddharthanagar Municipality. Police sources said Gupta faces charges of masterminding the kidnapping of the Marwari businessman.
Gupta, a former minister, was arrested on the basis of the statement given two persons who were arrested by the police from Hetauda on Sunday.
Sanghai, who is said to have been abducted on the morning of December 21 from Kamaladi GaneshThan, had returned home safely three weeks later after paying hefty ransom. Although, his family tried to keep the amount of ransom a secret, police source believe he paid several crores (tens of millions) rupees to secure release.
Meanwhile, Speaker Subas Nemwang’s aide Sudarshan Kuinkel told Nepalnews that the Speaker was informed by the police about Gupta’s arrest.
