KATHMANDU: Top Maoist leaders today admitted to senior party cadres that they were forced to unite not because of ideological compromises but because of the extreme pressure from outside.

Addressing a training jointly organised at Khanna Garment, Gwarko for Newa and Tamsaling State Committees party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said they were forced to unite because the other parties had ‘cornered’ the party.

He said the attack intensified when the party was divided. It has decreased after the factions unified. He directed senior party cadres to work hard in a united manner for drafting the new constitution with anti-imperialist and anti-feudalist spirit and a dignified army integration.

Dahal further reiterated that revolt would be the people’s ultimate choice if the parties hatched conspiracy against peace and constitution. Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidhya said he was not against peace and constitution, but was for people’s federal republican constitution having the anti-imperialistic and anti-feudalistic spirit. “We must also begin preparations for people’s revolt,” he said.

Baidhya admitted they had made several accusations against the party chairman and other leaders for which he apologised and expressed commitment not to repeat such activities. He also requested Dahal to correct his mistakes.

Vice-chairman and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said the government front should be utilised for the time being to carry out reforms temporarily. He said differing views would be taken to the lower level of the party for discussion.by TIKA R PRADHAN from THT
