No system can outdo democracy: PM
KATHMANDU, JUN 05 – Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday remarked that the alternative to democracy is a “bigger democracy.”
Addressing an interaction program organised by the parties aligned with the caretaker government, the prime minister said there can be no other political orientation or any kind of authoritarianism as an alternative to democracy.
“We all are equally responsible for the current situation regardless of the procedures we followed,” said PM Bhattarai. “All of us who believe in democracy can save the nation if we move ahead by truly embracing the democratic system.”
The prime minister said the current situation is the result of the political parties’ decision to refuse to forge consensus, thwart the process to exercise the rights of Constituent Assembly (CA), run away from election and turn down the proposal of emergency.
Saying that there are very few examples of the constitution drafted through the CA, he urged everyone not to be disappointed. Bhattarai claimed that he has become really sad as his ‘childhood dream’ to draft the people’s constitution through the CA could not come true.Ekantipur Report
