PM ready to resign if parties reach consensus: Dahal
KATHMANDU: UCPN Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is ready to resign if political parties reach consensus of various problems facing the country.
“If there is consensus to resolve problems in a package the Prime Minister is ready to resign,” Dahal told journalists emerging from a meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today.
According to Dahal, the President insisted him on seeking consensus for bringing budget and hold elections. He however assured the President that he has been doing his best to find out a suitable way out of the present crisis.
Dahal met the Head of the State at the residence in Sital Niwas at 4.15 pm and spent about one-and-a-half hour. He also briefed the President that he has called a meeting tomorrow with the leaders of the Nepali Congress and the CPN UML for seeking consensus.

Rajendra Dahal, Press Advisor to the President said that the Head of the State asked Dahal to forge consensus among the parties on budget, election and other matters related to state affairs as he said that there was no alternative of political consensus.
“President asked Dahal to take a lead role as the chairman of the largest party to seek consensus as the Interim Constitution has no other option of consensus among the political parties,” he added.
In a separate meeting, the CPN UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal told the President that the parties will not accept the full budget if the government brings through ordinance without their consent. “While we ready for consensus, the government is not,” Khanal told journalists.THT
