KATHMANDU, AUG 09 – Acting chief of Nepal Army (NA) General Gaurav SJB Rana took over the responsibility of top military post Chief of Army Staff  General Chhatra Man Singh on Thursday.
General Gurung, who is going for a month-long customary vacation before his retirement from Friday,  handed over the responsibility of top military post to Rana amid a function organised at Nepal Army headquarters in the Capital on Thursday.

The Cabinet meeting on August 1 had appointed Rana as the acting chief of Nepal Army. Gurung will be promoted to the CoAS post after Gurung will retire on September 9.

Principle Staff Officers, Lieutenant General and other army officers, were present at the function. Prior to the handover of responsibility by Gurung, a recommendation letter for the promotion and appointment of acting chief Rana to the top military post, which will be rendered vacant from September 9, was forwarded to the Defence Ministry.

Gurung took SJB Rana along with him and introduced him before President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai as his successor.

Born in December 12, 1955, Rana joined Nepal Army on September 5, 1966,   He got trained at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, the world famous training centre in Britain, before he was commissioned in the infantry battalion in 1974. Rana graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth.ekantipur
