Ruling parties meet to discuss alliance of pro-federal forces
KATHMANDU, AUG 13 – A meeting of ruling parties is under way at the prime minister official residence in Baluwatar to discuss the formation of proposed alliance of “pro-federal forces.”
It has been learnt that the meeting is discussing the Term of Reference (ToR) for forming an alliance of pro-federal forces.
Leaders of ruling UCPN (Maoist), Sumyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), and 21 other fringe parties are present at the meeting.
Earlier on Thursday, the UCPN (Maoist) had proposed a Federal Democratic Alliance with the Madhes-based parties and some fringe parties until the next elections.
The ruling parties resolved to form the alliance after the opposition parties including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML became united to pressurise the prime minister to step down.
The opposition parties have dubbed the proposed alliance of pro-federalists as a strategy to prolong the current government’s stay in power.
The ruling and opposition political parties have polarised sharply in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly (CA).
