Leaders rejected the possibility to draft constitution, CA on verge of dissolution; talks underway on how to manage transitional period

KATHMANDU: At a time when general people are expecting leaders to come up with a new statute by the midnight and different indigenous and ethnic groups are waiting big guns to address their concerns in the new statute, leaders have started rejecting the possibility to draft the timely constitution.

“There is no chance of breakthrough. We will not get a new constitution today,” said Maoist leader Dev Gurung emerging from the meeting between the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN-UML, and the Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Nembang at Singha Durbar.

Senior leader of the CPN-UML K P Oli also said that talks are heading towards uncertainty and CA is on the verge of dissolution.

According to Gurung, now talks are underway on how to manage the transitional period without the CA.

If the parties failed to promulgate the new statute by today, CA will be dissolved automatically.

UCPN-Maoist has already floated the suggestion among the parties to go for fresh polls.THT
