Mastermind behind Babarmahal blast Rajkumar Tamang held

KATHMANDU, JUN 27 – Police on Wednesday arrested the mastermind behind the blast outside Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) central office at Babarmahal, Kathmandu.

The mastermind has been identified as Rajkumar Tamang aka Bishwokranti, 41, of Chunmang-1, Dhankuta.

The Eastern Regional Police Office, Biratnagar, made public Tamang amid a press conference today. Tamang was arrested from Bhuspate Lake in Paanchthar, DSP Bhim Dahal informed.

The police official added that Tamang had claimed responsibility for the blast to various media following the incident.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested Tamang and brought him to Biratnagar.

During the press conference, Tamang conceded to have carried out out the blast but denied having any intention to kill the innocent people.

On Feb 27, three people were killed and seven others injured when a powerful bomb exploded outside the gate of NOC, only few meters away from Singha Durbar, in Babarmahal, Kathmandu.

Tamang, who is said to be the spokesperson and foreign department chief of Sanyukta Jatiya Morcha, had been living in Panchthar district with the name of Nelson. Police said it took 16 hours of the police team to reach the place where Tamang was residing.

Police also made public explosives and documents at the press meet and revealed that Tamang’s group was found involved in 19 incidents including explosion, attempted blast and extortion. ekantipur
