bulk entry of Maoist combatants into the Nepali Army and rehabilitation package for the fighters, who want to opt for civilian life, is acceptable to MJF-D party.

KATHMANDU: Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) General Secretary Jitendra Dev today said the UCPN-Maoist’s stance on bulk entry of Maoist combatants into the Nepali Army and rehabilitation package for the fighters, who want to opt for civilian life, is acceptable to his party.

The Maoist party has proposed integrating 7,000 fighters and assigning them combative role, while the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have said the combatants should be assigned non-combative role such as forest and industrial security.

The fighters should be kept in group until they complete training in the NA after integration, Dev said at a programme, hinting at the possibility of a political consensus on this issue.

The MJF (D) leader further said that political parties are close to forming an experts’ committee for combatants’ rank determination, integrating 7,000 fighters and providing Rs 7 lakh to each combatant for rehabilitation, adding that consensus will be possible if the Congress and UML become positive.

“We have found the UCPN-M honest this time to complete the peace process. So, all other parties should cooperate with them,” he said.

The August 28 four-point deal between the UCPN-M and United Madhesi Democratic Front has revived cordial relations between the Tarai and the hills and made national unity stronger, Dev said.HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE
