Team Dahal on Mission America to promote‚ develop Lumbini
KATHMANDU: A team headed by Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to leave for the United States next week to muster United Nations’ support for the integrated development of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
Dahal is the coordinator of the Lumbini Development National Directive Committee (LDNDC) that the Cabinet had formed on October 17 for preparing a master plan and garnering international support for the development of Lumbini. On October 25, the Cabinet had decided to send a team under Dahal to the US.
LDNDC members Minendra Rijal and Manoj Bahadur Shrestha are part of the three-member core team that will hold talks with UN officials for the development of Lumbini as an international Buddhist centre, according to sources.
Dahal’s personal assistant Samir Dahal and son Prakash Dahal will accompany him as assistants, the sources said.
The team is scheduled to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Rijal said. “The team is most likely to leave for the US on Saturday. The itinerary of the visit, which will last four to five days, will be finalised tomorrow,” said Samir Dahal.
Nepal’s permanent mission to the UN in New York will arrange the meeting with UN Secretary General Ban, according to Rudra Kumar Nepal, chief of the UN division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
