Mahato blames speaker for party split, Govt will topple over stalled peace process: Mahato

Chairman of Sadhbhavana Party Rajendra Mahato has alleged that House Speaker Subash Nembang was responsible for the second split of his party.

“Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang, Vice Chairman of Janashakti Party Prakash Chandra Lohani and some of the leaders of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM) are responsible for the party split,” Mahato said speaking at a program in Reporters Club in the Capital today.

He blamed Speaker Nembang for recognising a new party formed by those behind the party split notwithstanding his party’s recommendation for action against them. “It is an unfortunate and sad,” said Mahato.

Mahato reckoned that Nembang should take the responsibility for the party-split. “Anti-Madhes speaker will get no support from Madhes,” he warned.

Saying that quest for power and prosperity was the ‘disease’ behind the split of the Madhesi parties, Mahato said that ‘greedy and sinner’ have quit the party.

In a different context, Mahato claimed that no one could save the government if no progress were seen in the process of peace and constitution within a month.

He said that SLMM would give an ultimatum to the government in completing the task of peace, constitution, entry of Madhesi youths in Nepal Army, among others. He clarified that the government will topple if it fails to embrace those demands within the given ultimatum.

He said that until the UCPN (Maoist) show sincerity in peace process, obstruction from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML cannot topple the government.

He remarked that the controversial decision to legalise the land transaction made through the parallel administration run by the Maoist during the decade long insurgency period will not be implemented at any cost.

“Maoist should have two-third of majority in the House to implement the decision,” he said, adding, “Since they do not have the majority, the decision will not be implemented.”
