Ex-king graces mahayagya in Sunsari
KATHMANDU: Former king Gyanendra Shah has inaugurated the Bhabishya Puran Mahayagya at Jhumka in Sunsari district on Thursday afternoon.
The Mahayagya is being organised for the first time in Nepal.
The former king who reached Biratnagar Airport through Buddha Air at 10 am this morning was welcomed by the cadres of Rastriya Prajantra Party-Nepal and pro-monarchists soon after he landed at the airport.
The monarch’s supporters had reached the airport with Nepali flags and chanted slogans supporting monarchy and Hindu kingdom.
The former king is also scheduled to address a press conference organised at a hotel in Biratnagar later.
The organisers informed that the amount collected at the Mahayagya will be used to build an old age home in the district.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at the district to thwart any untoward incidents.
Shah is scheduled to return to Kathmandu at 6 this evening.
