KATHMANDU: The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Chairman Raj Kumar Lekhi has criticised the political leadership for saying that the Constitution Assembly and Legislature-Parliament meetings and the constitution-drafting have been affected due to the bandh imposed by NEFIN. He said such remarks are irresponsible for the parties wasted four years.

”In these four years, it has been clear that the political parties delayed (the constitution-drafting) intentionally and now intend to promulgate a constitution taking out it from their pocket,” he said in a statement issued on Monday, the second day of three-day general shutdown that has witnessed attacks on media and political leaders at many places.

It’s not sensible on the part of the political parties and their leadership to find an excuse by holding the agitating people responsible, Lekhi said int the statement after holding two rounds of talks with the top leaders of major political forces and the government talks team.

“Nepal Federation of Indigenous Assembly is ready to make an arrangement for taking all 601 members of Constituent Assembly members back and forth for the CA meetings even amid the ongoing agitation,” he said.

Claiming that some vigilantes and anarchic forces infiltrated and did things against NEFIN’s commitment to press freedom during today’s bandh, he urged the people to maintain restraint and unity among themselves. He suspected that that there could be plots to extend the Constituent Assembly tenure by imposing an emergency by disrupting social harmony and deteriorating the situation.

The NEFIN leaders held separate talks with the top leaders and the government talks teams comprising of four ministers at the Constituent Assembly premises today. The leaders asked NEFIN to withdraw its bandh. READ ALSO: Top parties woo protesters for talks
