Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai, as a head of the government, is attending the Conference at the invitation of the UN Secretary General.
The Conference would be a significant platform to inform the international community about the developmental and environmental problems of the less developed and hilly country like Nepal.
The Conference would be attended by some 150 heads of the state and governments.
Brazil had hosted the conference for the first time 20 years ago.
Even a meeting of the heads of the state and government of least developed countries would be held there.
Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai will chair the meeting as Nepal is the chair of the group of the least developed countries.
The group has 39 members.
It was a must for the Prime Minister to attend the meeting since the absence of Nepal will reflect its failure to fulfill its responsibilities as the chair of the least developed countries (LDCs), according to his personal secretary Bishwo Deep Pandey.
Besides, another meeting will take place there to discuss on the problems and challenges faced by the high hilly countries. Participation of Nepal, the country of the highest peak in the world, in the meeting would be significant.  The meeting will be held at the initiative of Nepal, Switzerland and Peru.
Similarly, the Prime Minister will observe the hydro power projects in Brazil.
He is also scheduled to hold bilateral and multilateral meetings with the heads of the State and the government during his stay there.
