Minister Gupta says govt is failing

Minister for Information and Communication Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta on Wednesday said the current government under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai is failing.

Talking to the media persons at his office today, the information minister said that the government has not been able to summon a single Cabinet meet since its formation. This indicates the government is failing, as it has not been able to recommend names to fill in vacant positions at constitutional bodies and the government has not brought any relief programme for the general people, he claimed.

“The government is in limbo as the ruling parties have not taken any concrete step other than handing over the keys of arms containers,” said Gupta.

Saying that the current government will not last more than three months, Minister Gupta said it was weakness on the part of ruling parties for not being able to give full shape to the Cabinet since the formation of government.

The government should forge consensus among the political parties on the issues regarding number of Maoist combatants, integration, modality, ranking, and rehabilitation package. Failure to this has affected the statute drafting process, he said.Ekantipur Repor
