Armed group Bhagat Singh said his party is ready for peace talks.
NEPALGUNJ, OCT 01 – Jantantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party, an underground outfit unleashing violence in the Tarai districts, has said it is ready to enter peaceful politics by renouncing “armed rebellion”.
Talking to the Post in a bordering Indian village on Friday, commander of the armed group Bhagat Singh said his party would give up violent activities in the region if the government invites it for peace talks.
“We are ready to sit for talks at any time if the government honestly asks us for the same. But the government should be flexible for the peace deal,” Singh said.
He said nobody has urged the group for talks besides an offer made by former Minister Pampha Bhushal. “I am not in favour of returning to the armed rebellion once we hold talks. The government should also come positively to conclude the peace talks through the very first talks,” he added.
In view the greatest Hindu festival Dashain, the outfit announced stopping its “people’s action” for 15 days during the festival. “We are ready to declare truce immediately if the government manages environment for negotiation,” he said.
A knowledgeable source said Singh was ready to hold talks with the government following the increasing pressure from the South. “He chose peaceful ways soon after he returned from New Delhi a week ago,” the source said.
An activist of Singh-led outfit said Singh immediately informed an agency in Lucknow, India about each party’s action. A high-level police source, however, claimed that strengthening security in the area gave Singh a tough time to carry the armed activities. Of late, police arrested more than a dozen of his members, including district leaders, from various parts in Banke and Bardiya districts.(J.Pandey,Ekantipur)
