Tourist passenger bus traveling to Triveni in Nepal met with an accident and plunged into the Gandak canal near Kudiya-6 of Nawalparasi

Nepalese Authoritie has informed that a tourist passenger
bus Registration no. Lu 1 Kha 2356, traveling to Triveni in Nepal met with
an accident and plunged into the Gandak canal near Kudiya-6 of Nawalparasi
District of Nepal near India-Nepal border. So far the Nepalese authorities
have confirmed recovery of 39 bodies. Of these 36 are reported to be Indian
nationals. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are being
recovered from the canal.
2. The bus, carrying an unspecified number of passengers, including
Indians hailing largely from Maharajgunj district of Uttar Pradesh via
Gutti Parasunipath, Dhulinipul, Bihar to Triveni, Nepal. The Nepalese
authorities have reached the spot and are coordinating the relief and
rescue operations. The Gandak barrage flow has been restricted to
facilitate their operations. So far 27 persons have been rescued alive. Of
these 10 are Indian nationals whose names are as follows;

3. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Nepal. Of the above, Sl
no. 1 to 5 have been admitted to the Nawalparasi Hospital while Sl no. 6-10
have been taken to the Chaupata hospital.

4. The Indian Embassy has sent a special teams, including a medical
doctor, to the accident site to assist Nepalese authorities in the relief
and rescue operations. A information centre/control room has been
established in the Embassy of India, Kathmandu. Following are the phone

5. Shri Dileep Kumar, Executive Engineer, Main Western Gandak Canal
(mobile No. +91-94314640410) has also reached the spot and is assisting
with the relief work. The authorities of Indian districts adjoining the
border have also rushed to the spot. The Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB)
contingent deployed on the nearest border has also been mobilized to
provide required assistance.
