SAARC summit concludes; Nepal to host 18th summit

The 17th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) concluded in Addu city of the Maldives on Friday, issuing ‘Addu Declaration’ on the theme of “building bridges”.

The member states signed four agreements at the end of the two-day summit. They are: the Agreement on Rapid Response to Natural Disasters, the Seed Bank Agreement, the Agreement on Multilateral Arrangement on Recognition of Conformity Assessment and the Agreement on Implementation of Regional Standards.

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai gave vote of thanks on behalf of the heads of governments at the conclusion of the Summit.

He appreciated the government and people of Maldives for the excellent arrangements made for the Summit and for the warm hospitality extended to all the delegations.

Prime Minister Bhattarai also acknowledged the works of all those associated with the preparation and holding of the 17th SAARC Summit and extended felicitations to the Secretary General and her team in the SAARC Secretariat for their contribution.

Meanwhile, the summit also accepted Nepal’s offer to host the 18th summit two years later.

Prime Minister Bhattarai said that the Nepali people and the Government of Nepal are eagerly looking forward to welcome the leaders of South Asia for the next SAARC Summit in Nepal.
