Parties agree to shorten statute drafting process
With the May 27 deadline for constitution drafting nearing, political parties have agreed to amend the Article 70 of the Interim Constitution to shorten the constitution drafting process.
Concluding that the nation will not have a new constitution within the deadline if the current CA calendar is followed, the parties reached an agreement to this effect during an all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the PMO in Singha Durbar today.
The Cabinet will now prepare a formal proposal for approval of the decision by the parliamentary business advisory board and then endorsement by the full House of the Constituent Assembly (CA). Thereafter the CA calendar will be revised so as to clear the way for promulgation of the constitution within the May 27 deadline. Nepalnews.com
