Speaking in a program at Reporters Club Nepal, the MPRF-N chief Upendra Yadav said it is the duty of the president as the head of state and patron of constitution to take an initiative to prevent the country from becoming a ‘failed’ state.

“Now there should not be further delay. The president should give an ultimatum to the parties for forging consensus. It’s time to move ahead forming a new government,” Yadav said.

He labeled Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai as ‘anti-nationalist’, accusing him of allowing the country to be run by India.’

Referring to PM Bhattarai’s meeting with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, without including Nepali delegation in the talks, on the sidelines of the recently concluded NAM summit in Tehran, Yadav charged Bhattarai with betraying the country.

“This act of PM is a betrayal of the Nepali people and a disgrace to the country. The PM should explain to the people in this regard,” Yadav said, adding that the incident has also created a rift between the PM and the foreign minister, who also attended the summit conference.Chairman Yadav came down heavily on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, accusing him of holding a secret parley with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh during the 16th Summit of the Non- Aligned Movement held in Tehran recently, which he dubbed as ‘betrayal’ to the nation and the people of Nepal.

Yadav also flayed the foreign minister for his failure to efficiently carry out his duties and added that the Prime Minister’s latest secret parley with his Indian counterpart has posed a distrust between the Prime Minister and the President.

He also accused UCPN (Maoist) of being anti-federalist and said the formation of UCPN (Maoist)-led Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) is just a ploy to prolong the ruling coalition’s stay in power.

“Had the Maoists been real proponenets of federalism, the issue would have got mention in the 12-point pact and interim constitution. But it was the Madhes movement that actually established the agenda,” he argued.

He further alleged that the three major political parties dissolved the Constituent Assembly fearing the advent of federalism in the country and added that the Nepali people will not accept any constitution devoid of federalism, identity and inclusion, among other things.
