NC leader Deuba resigns from party CWC
KATHMANDU, SEP 28 – The internal differences within the Nepali Congress took a new height on Wednesday after NC Senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba resigned from the party Central Working Committee.
Leader Deuba and other NC leaders and activists close to him have been objecting over the decision taken by the establishment faction led by President Sushil Koirala to dissolve the four sister organisations of the NC.
The Deuba camp have been clamouring for the withdrawal of the decision to dissolve the four sister wings—Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Mahila Sangh, Adibasi Janjati Sangh and Prajatantrik Senani Sangh.
Earlier, a team of three leaders from the Koirala faction—Narahari Acharya, General Secretary Krishna Sitaula and Ram Saran Mahat—who met the Deuba camp on Monday had proposed formation of new interim committees under the chair of former presidents of the dissolved organisations. The Deuba faction had been offered an opportunity to appoint half of the members in the committees. According to NC leader Gopal Man Shrestha, a close aide to Deuba, the dissenting faction had accepted the proposal but later President Koirala declined to accept the proposal.
Meanwhile, nine leaders of the sister wings were admitted in Star Hospital in Sanepa. Tarun Dal Chairman Mahendra Yadav, who had been sent to the ICU four days ago, has been taken out of special care. However, his health is yet to improve, said Uday Shumsher Rana, vice president of the dissolved Tarun Dal.
Following the resignation from Deuba, leaders and activists close to him have broken their hunger strike after nine days. NC cadres of both the factions in favour of and against the party decision have been on a hunger-strike for the last 10 days.
