“Bhandari didn’t mean that” Said GUPTA, Madhesi Morcha wants to see the Madhes as a separate province,

Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar airport on Wednesday, Gupta said Bhandari’s statement was symbolic and was made in a different context.
“We have no thought of disintegrating Nepal.”
“It is only that the [United Democratic] Madhesi Morcha wants to see the Madhes as a separate province, keeping intact the territorial integrity of Nepal,” Gupta added.
Two days ago, Minister Bhandari, during a program in the capital, had said no law in the country could stop 22 districts of the Terai region from seceding from Nepal if the state continues to show apathy towards their cause.

On the issue of the peace process, Gupta, who is also a member in the Special Committee on supervision, integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants, said a concrete step would be taken in two days in the direction of concluding the peace process.

He further said the prime minister had proposed to integrate as many 7,000 Maoist combatants during Monday’s SC meeting. He, however, said discussion on the PM’s proposal is underway.

“The PM has proposed to provide a lump sum of Rs 7,00,000 to each combatant and Rs 10,00,000 to each senior commander, who opt to go for rehabilitation,” Gupta added.

Gupta also said the issues of integration modality, rank harmonization and rehabilitation package are yet to be resolved and rued that Nepali Congress and CPN UML have not cooperated in carrying out regrouping of combatants.
