Govt mulls special security plan as CA deadline nears
KATHMANDU, March 21: Keeping in view the fourth deadline for the promulgation of the new constitution and concluding the peace process, the Home Ministry is mulling to introduce a “special” three-month security plan.
“The home ministry is coming up with a special security keeping in mind the approaching deadline for writing the new constitution and concluding the peace process,” said Shankar Koirala, spokesperson for the home ministry, adding, “The main purpose of this arrangement is to maintain security in Kathmandu before and after the May 27 deadline.”
The security plan will be finalized in a couple of days and is likely to be implemented after a week. “Discussions are under way and the ministry will finalize the plan within a couple of days,” he said.
However, no additional police personnel will be deployed for implementation of the special security plan in Kathmandu. “The Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel will jointly be jointly deployed at various places,” Koirala said.
As a part of the special security plan, the government will install CCTVs at various sensitive areas including Singha Durbar and the Constituent Assembly building, among others. “More than 60 cameras will be installed at various sensitive places of Kathmandu,” a source at the home ministry told Republica.
The source added that the government needs around Rs 90 million to implement the plan.
The home ministry will have to get a nod from the finance ministry to get the required budget after finalization of the plan.
