Possibility of CA term extension ends as SC upholds its previous decision
The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday issued a verdict saying that its November 25 verdict regarding the extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) would not be reviewed.
The court issued the ruling on two separate petitions filed by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, and Speaker Subash Nemwang seeking review of the decision.
A single bench of justice Kamal Narayan Das upheld the earlier verdict of the court after hearing the two petitions which were filed together, challenging the rejection order of December 27.
The SC on December 27 had refused to register the government’s petition seeking a review on November 25 ruling of the apex court that said the CA’s term can be extended only one more time and that the Assembly will be defunct if the constitution is not promulgated within the extended term.
The CA term extended for the 4th time will expire on May 27. nepalnews.com
