Prachanda desires oppons’ flexibility in fed talks
KATHMANDU: UCPN–Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged the two big oppositions—the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress(NC) to show flexibility in federating the country on the basis of identity during the process of state
constructing.
“Maoist has show maximum flexibility on most of the contentious issues in the new statute, and now it’s the turn of the NC and the UML,” said Dahal while talking to a delegation of Limbuwan State Committee at his residence this morning.
While accepting the memorandum submitted by the Limbuwan State Committee, which wants the political parties to take their concerns of ethnic identity-based federalism into account while promulgating a new statute, Dahal assured that their demands would be addressed in the new constitution as discussions with other parties are underway over federalism.
Maoist has proposed to federate the country into 14 federal states during the process of state reconstructing while the UML and the NC have been arguing that federalism should be based on economic viability and geography by addressing the issues of women, children, ethnic groups and Dalits.
While only 38 days are left to meet the May 27 deadline, parties are yet to agree on nomenclature, number and boundaries of federal states.
