Prez concerned over CA dissolution

KATHMANDU, JUN 18 – Saying that the major political parties “wasted” much of their time during the term of the Constituent Assembly (CA) in government formation, President Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday said the parties did not get serious, and this, despite a clear verdict from the Supreme Court on the tenure of the CA. This, according to him, invited the present situation.

At an interaction with leaders of various political parties, the President lamented the “reckless end” of the CA and said that this has tarnished the image of the country in the eyes of countries that had supported the peace process.

Yadav further urged the parties to not be involved in “interest-driven mudslinging and making superficial analyses” on the CA demise. “This will only increase bitterness in society, while also weakening the set norms and values of the state and its mechanisms,” a statement issued by the President’s Office said.

The President also urged consensus as “there is no legitimate institution as the CA that would give an outlet to the political issues”.

Yadav further expressed concerns over the “deteriorating state of governance,” communal harmony, depletion of natural resources, deforestation and the overall security situation owing to the protracted transition phase.ekantipur
